Jackson Starting in His Fourth Different Position on Saturday?

As we talked about in the Practice Report on Wednesday, Jackson could get a start at his fourth different position, and possibly most natural, starting on the right side in place of Atiba Harris on Saturday. In Steve Hunt’s FCD Notebook, he raises the question about someone new starting in place of Atiba.

Jackson, a proven utility man for FCD, has played right mid, defensive mid, center back, and his natural right back position. Despite having started seven times, this would be his first on the right flank.

Though Hyndman says “it very well could be [Jackson out there on Saturday],” he’s got plenty of options, including Marvin Chavez and Brek Shea, and he hasn’t ruled out Harris yet.

Harris missed training on Tuesday but was back in the fold on Wednesday and Thursday, working with the second team for much of Thursday’s session.

“Quite honestly, I think Atiba has been carrying these knocks a little bit,” the coach said. “It’s affected his play a little bit, his performance and his mentality.

“As I said to Atiba, ‘Let’s get you healthy. Let’s get you 100 percent back,’” Hyndman added. “It’s good to see him back out there [training].”

What do you think? Is it the right time to test Jackson in a new position for FC Dallas? He’s shown to be extremely solid defensively with quickness and strength, but has not shown his crossing ability yet.

Would be interested to see him in this position. For me, I’m not crazy about him in the back four, but an outside midfield spot might be great.

Excited for the match tonight! FC Dallas til I die!
